After just over 4 years I left Dex Media. I started in Minneapolis as a Premise Sales Rep (Outside sales), and moved back to Denver as an Internet Sales Manager less than two years later.
It was one of the best learning experiences I could have asked for. I met a lot of great people. I learned a lot about business and a lot about myself. I reaffirmed the type of leader I want to be, and was made more aware of business practices I have to avoid if I want to sleep at night.
They have some great new leaders there from their new owners, RH Donnelly, and I expect great things from them, despite the decline of the Yellow Pages industry.
So what do I do now?
Well, for now I am back to consulting for Stratford IT Consulting, Focus on The Vine & Ascend eMarketing, which I really enjoy. As a consultant I can focus on doing what is right for my customers, which is not always the focus of large corporations. I was not able to provide Internet Marketing consulting services while at Dex (other than to recommend Dex products to Dex customers) because of a potential conflict of interest-and even though I never crossed that line I understood their position.
I also have my resume out there and feelers out for the right opportunity-and I will graduate with my MBA from Regis this December.
If you get the chance, check out my new blog; "The Truth About Internet Marketing." I don't pretend to know all of the answers, but I help people filter out all of the misleading information out there so that they can successfully market their businesses online in the most cost effective ways possible. I can help businesses of all sizes implement Internet Marketing programs that work, and avoid the many scams and false promises to which they can fall prey.
Sometimes I even recommend Dexonline.com, which is an excellent online yellow pages.
Javier has started doing some work for me recently-he is a brilliant and a rare man who actually uses both sides of his brain very well and is an excellent communicator.
By the way-the family is doing great. Lot's of challenges ahead for all of us, which is what makes the journey so interesting and rewarding. Please keep us in your prayers.
(To go to my Internet marketing blog please click on the Internet Marketing link on right side of page just below "My Links") As God transforms me into the father, the son, the friend and the man he wants me to be, I believe this online journal is a part of my transformation from "Poser" to "Genuine Article". Thank you for visiting-all feedback and all comments are welcome.

Superman (& Dan) Returns!
It has been a while since I have blogged, but I am back.
I have been incredibly busy since Juliet was born. I am going to try to update some pictures for whoever wants to see them next week.
I just finished up my 2nd to last MBA class on Saturday night, and now I am with part of my family-Rachel, Eli, Eva and Juliet-in Steamboat Springs. Tyler is in West Virginia working with a missionary group, and Madison is in KC with my parents.
I am taking the next two months off from school and to figure my career out, as it is a bit up in the air in its current state. I am not real happy where I am working, and I am thinking about looking for other opportunities. Someone from my company may actually read this blog, and if they do-here’s a message to them;
“It would be no surprise to my boss that I am unhappy in my current job, but if you want to tell him I blogged about it, please send him the URL so he can read it for himself and not have things blown out of proportion. Thanks.”
So-"Superman Returns". It was a very well done, although at times overcooked, movie.
On the one hand it was its own film, and the new guy playing Superman was his own man. On the other hand, in some ways it seemed like a remake of the first Christopher Reeve Superman movie, and the new guy playing Superman seemed like a remarkable clone of Christopher Reeve.
For example:
In the first big scene, Superman rescues people from a near airplane crash, with incredible special effects as he "lands" the plane safely in a baseball field during an MLB game. The fans give him a standing ovation, and after the incredible special effects around that made the audience in the movie theater want to do the same thing. After he lands the plane, Superman says to the passengers (including Lois Lane, of course); "I hope this doesn't put you off flying. Statistically speaking, it's still the safest way to travel."
In the first big scene of the first Superman movie with Christopher Reeve (it was the first time in the movie anyone sees Superman), Superman rescues Lois Lane from a helicopter falling off of the roof of a skyscraper. It also involved incredible special effects for 1978, and afterwards I remember everyone in the theater being amazed. At the end of the scene, Superman says to Lois; "I hope this doesn't put you off flying. Statistically speaking, it's still the safest way to travel."
Of course, Luthor’s “land deal” was similar to his “land deal” in the first movie, with him justifying it to Lois instead of Superman, with Parker Posey listening (and distraught) instead of Miss Chesbacker, and with the East Coast in danger instead of the West Coast.
At one point I remember thinking; “If Superman flies around the earth to change the past I am going to be very disappointed.”
The guy who played Superman was pretty darn amazing, he seemed eerily similar to Christopher Reeve, but at the same time it did not seem like an imitation. It was as if he had made some of the same decisions in playing the character that Christopher did, but they were his own decisions, and he seemed authentic.
The end was a bit mellow, and maybe a bit of a let down, but the continuance of the Messiah and Father-Son themes through to the end was pretty cool. Towards the beginning of the movie Lois said “The world doesn’t need a savior”. By the end of the movie she and the rest of the world realized that we do, or at least, that we need Superman.
I think even Superman would agree that we need a savior, but that it’s not Superman. We need something more. Because even Superman needs a savior-he is a fallen, broken man, just like the rest of us. (OK-I know he’s not real)
Anyway, I hope to be able to blog more. Tell me what you think.
And happy Independence Day.
